Technology | Operations | Franchising
I’ve always been what I call an unafraid user of technology. And in franchising, that willingness to embrace it early and fully has been one of my biggest competitive advantages.
Yet when I look at franchise companies across the world — and I’ve worked in over a dozen countries — I still see the same pattern. Leaders who are reluctant to invest in technology. Leaders who are comfortable with spreadsheets and phone calls when cloud-based platforms could be doing the heavy lifting. The result? Inefficiency, inconsistency, and missed opportunities.
Technology in franchising serves three core purposes: it makes operations more efficient, it improves communication across the system, and it delivers critical data — instantly, to anyone who needs it.
At Pure Nectar, we built what we call the SMART Technology Portal. It integrates CRM and ERP functions, connects our entire operation — from production planning to customer relationships, from point of sale to health and safety compliance. What used to take a production manager four to five hours manually, now takes a few clicks.
Dashboards are available on every device, at any time. Our franchisees don’t have to wait for a monthly report to understand how their business is performing. They can see it in real time and make decisions that same day.
And here’s a side benefit nobody talks about: technology attracts better franchisees. When a prospect walks into your discovery process and sees a sophisticated, well-integrated system, it builds confidence. It signals that you are serious. That you’ve thought this through. That their investment is safe in your hands.
You don’t need a massive budget to start. Begin with what matters most to your business model and build from there. The key is to start — and to not let fear of the unfamiliar hold your system back.
Embrace technology. Embed it into everything. Your franchisees — and your customers — will thank you for it.
